2024 JSBA AGM Prize Drawing

Hello, Jacob friends!

My name is Sarah Karr of Roving Acres and it is my honor to once again be serving you as the AGM prize drawing webmaster. This year’s prize drawing will be held in conjunction with the AGM in Cumberland, Maine  August 2-4. Don’t worry if you can’t make the trip though, the prize drawing is open for everyone. If you aren’t on-site, arrangements can be made to ship your prize to you or ask a friend who is attending to bring it home with them.

Each year I think has to have the best prize donations and yet somehow every year you manage top it. Prizes range from your amazing handmade goods and historical Jacob sheep items, to useful sheep books or services, to tastes of your hometown. There really is something for everyone! Participating in the prize drawing is a great way to connect with fellow Jacob folks and support the organization even if you can’t make the trip to AGM in person.

Donors: Please send a large, clear photo of your donation, along with a short description, your contact information, and a link to your website to rovingacres@gmail.com. You can send them to the AGM or hold them to send directly to the winners. Factor the cost of shipping into your donation plans if you are not personally attending and consider using a website such as pirateship.com to reduce postal costs.

Metalized Jacob Ram Skull

This decorative male Jacob sheep head was created by Ryan Spilt, the owner of Booner Taxidermy (boonertaxidermy.com). He completed the process of skull cleaning and metalization. There were several color options. I chose the bronze color so I like to say it was bronzed. I have thought of adding aqua faux stones to the forehead, either two, one over each eye, or one in the middle, but have not glued the blue faux stones in place. I will let the new owner attach the “stones” if they like the look. I think the added color is very cool and looks so “southwest.” But some people might prefer a more natural look. I will include the blue faux stone patches with the head.

At the time I had this done, I asked Ryan what it would cost if I wanted to do another head. He said $800. I have not had any other sheep heads metalized. Ryan has relocated to a larger shop further out of town and expanded into butchering meat, both hunter’s kill and cattle and pigs. I spoke to him a couple days ago. He said he prefers the butcher business and the butcher clientele. He said it is keeping him very busy.

The horns on this item measure about 15.5 inches wide tip to tip. It is about 11 inches long top to bottom and about 6 inches deep. I have had it on a shelf flat. It could also be mounted on a wall.
